Auto Shifter problems...

Auto Shifter problems...
HELLO ALL:
I have a 83z28 w/auto stock 700R tranny. I know when the key is removed and the steering is locked, the shifter shouldn't be able to be moved. But one of my kids forced the shifter into drive with the key out, and the shifter moves even when the key is out and the steering is locked.
What can I do to fix this??? Is a rod bent or what???

I think it's just a cable connected to the shifter and a collar on the steering column. Take the shifter plate off and see if the end is broken off the cable.
