82 FIREBIRD SE 200c TRANS LEAK HELP !!
HI I HAVE AN 82 FIREBIRD S/E WITH V8 AND IT HAS A BAD AUTOMATIC 200C TRANS LEAK COMING FROM THE INSPECTION COVER.WAS TOLD IT CAN BE A NUMBER OF THINGS,CAN ANYONE HELP OUT?.I GOT A QUOTE FROM A PLACE FOR $330 TOTAL FOR A USED 200C TRANS INSTALED WITH CORE EXCHANGE.IS THAT A GOOD PRICE ? PLEASE HELP !!!

front seal, about a three dollar part...
ive got a rebuilt thm200c from my 82 that id sell for 125..... new converter and everything,....
dunno how far away you are though...

Cool thanks man for the info.I live in oklahoma.Trying to save my 82 firebird s/e from rotting away.Would you ship the trans ? let me know i got a cheap freight company that might be able to pick it up.If so ill take the trans for that price.thanks

You might want to consider a TH350 rather than putting in another 200C. The 350 is a lot stonger, it's an easy install for your car and might even be cheaper. It can also be built to TH350C spec in which case you will still have the lock up feature.

While you've got it down and out,check the torque converter. It may be cracked at the weld where the snout meets the converter body. Take it from someone who r&r'd a700r4 3 times thinking I'd done something wrong with the seal.
Stuff a rag in the snout and stick an air blow gun in there and GENTLY GENTLY GENTLY, ( did I mention GENTLY?) Bump a little air into the converter. You'll see fluid bubble out from the weld if it's indeed cracked. The converter for the V6 700r4 was a little over a hundred bucks. You'll also need a bunch of tranny fluid.
