Ok, so the guy from the tranny shop called. I explained to him:
Last night we finished installing my new 700r4. When we fired it up, Park, Reverse, & Nuetral were fine. When I put the tranny into OD, it wasn't there. It was like it was still in Nuetral. When I pulled the shifter down to Drive, the car hesitated, then kicked in. I then tried to adjust the detent (tv cable), still nothing. I took it out for a test drive, I dropped it in 1st, gave it about half throttle, and i felt this weird kinda grinding noise from the bottom of the car. I immediately let off and turned the car around and pulled it back into the garage. I jacked it up, looked over everything, made sure everything was tight, then decided to take it out again. I take it out, and 1st - 2nd seems to shift fine. I try to take off from Drive, and the engine just revs real high, and the car starts to move, but feels very weak. I drop it down to 1st, nail it, the car pulls "ok", shift to 2nd, pulls a lil worse, then to 3rd (Drive), and it slips some. I put it in OD, and if I give it about 3/4 Throttle, it pulls (very weakly though).
The tranny guy insists that this was caused because the Detent cable was not set properly. He says, as soon as I put it into Reverse, that the 3-4 Clutches burnt up.
Is this possible? I thought, even if the Detent Cable was not set properly, the car would still go into all of the gears. At least at Idle. Please let me know what you guys think. I really want to know if this was caused from something I did, or if he sent me a messed up tranny. Thanx again.

First off, the 3-4 clutches have NOTHING to do with the car starting off in the "Overdrive" position. If it moves in 1st, 2nd, and Drive, but won't move in "(D) Overdrive", then the builder probably put the foward sprag in backwards, or overlooked a faulty one. Anyhow, it sounds like the builder is trying to get out of fixing it by blaming it on you. Letting the car idle w/ an ill-adjusted cable will NOT effect longevity of the transmission, because no components are applied. Driving, on the other hand, with the cable out of adjustment can wreak havoc on a tranny, but that doesn't explain it not moving in Overdrive, yet working in other gears.
I wish I could be of more help, but based on your description, it sounds like you bought a big silver tub of ****

I agree, the 3-4 clutches only come on when are actually in 3rd & 4th gear, that is after the trans has shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear. You "cannot" engage the 3-4 clutches from the the start, except in a "full manual" transmission. Whoever built this unit, should be trying to help you instead of blaming you. Recheck the fluid level and the TV cable adjustment, to make sure they are correct.
hey guys, thanx alot. i will be calling him on monday and i'll see what he says. but he was insisting that this was caused from the detent cable not being properly set. this really sucks, because now i have to pull the damn tranny.....again.
