Rearend Specs on 3rd and 4th

I need help finding out what car has what kinda rear end in it and if it gots posi or not. I have been trying but have been having problems with the decoder and can't find a 4th gen deconder thats in english. I just got back from the junk yard and wrote down all the vins and specs on all the f-bodies at teh yard. heres a list of 4th gens:
2g2fv221k2227479 should be a 97 red auto firebird and that K could be an x.
1g1fp2314ml119402 I think this on was a 4th gen bird
2g2f5223752240635 purple 95 bird v6 it looked like was in it b4

the rest should be all 3rd gens:

Your '95 bird has:

GU5 - 3.23 REAR AXLE RATIO
J41 - PWR, FRT DISC, RR DRUM, CAST IR
and does NOT have Limited Slip

Your '97 bird has:

GU5 - 3.23 REAR AXLE RATIO
G80 - LIMITED SLIP
J65 - PWR, FRT & RR DISC

I gave up on the rest of your VIN's, they are incomplete, incorrect and just flat out encrypted. Did you notice that half of the info doesn't come up when you ran them through the VIN decoder? Did you write these on the back of your hand with a magic marker or something????

Well my sister was the one writing all the vins down so I'm sorry if they are all messed and I noticed that they were like that also. What rear would you guys suggest I put in? The guy said that the disc rears would be a lil more like $250 and the thridgen rears would be about $150. I currently have drum 2.73 on the back right now thats how my car came.

I would spend the $250 and get the one from that '97 Trans Am. It has 3.23, Limited slip, and good rear disc brakes. You could pay $250+ just trying to convert your existing rear to later style brakes, but your getting the rest of the rear end as well. That would be my choice. I would try and get the emergency brake cables as well.

Whats so special about the disc breaks anyways, I know their lighter and are a lil better but what else? Also is that limited slip thing the same as a posi? And how much harder would it be to put the disc instead of the drum, would one take longer that the other since I currently have drum stock?
