Pro built,
I am wondering why you don't have 2004R's offered--does this trans have some disadvantages or is there just no demand for built 2004r's?

The 200's sucked bad, and I've heard some horror stories about the 700R. The one I haven't heard anything bad about is the new 4L60e(I think that's the name of it) Its the new 4 speed O/D that's put in the 4th gen cars. You'll get another gear out of it, and I heard it'll take a beatin!
I personally have a 700R, I put TCI's Streetfighter kit in it and I have no trouble with it. If I had to guess with calculations, I think I'm giving it about 450+ horse off the motor, since my 385horse was RWHP. The 200's wouldn't even take 300hp I've heard.
Just some useless info, I don't know if my sources are correct or not, but they seem to be the general consensis around the boards

Guys run beefed up 2004R's all the time behind nine and ten second Grand Nationals. They can definitly handle the horsepower, its just a matter of building it right. I thik Art Carr makes a pretty stout 2004R. you could check out Jack Cotton's site too.
I used to offer 2004R's, the problem is getting Gran National, or Monte Carlo transmission cores (hard to get & getting more costly by the day). The other cores have to many valve body & governor problems. Yes, it can offer a little more when there is high horsepower, but as long you are under 650 realistic horsepower, then a change to the 2004R will be costly, and offer little to almost no advantage. If I had a line on good GN & MC cores and at a good price, I might reconsider doing them. Right now the 700R4's & 4L60E's are working out quite well. I don't need any more headaches.

Thanks for the reply Pro Built, This was exactly the info I was looking for and have been getting tired of the "my buddy's friend's brother who knew a guy that had one said they suck/were great" response. I had one built locally for use behind a mild Caddy 500 and my only clue that the cases were significantly different was that the shop (told me they) gave me back a Monte trans even though I gave them a diesel trans as a core. I knew it wasn't a complete lemon of a trans (I noticed the same thing Ian_F pointed out), I was just curious if one was much better than the other, it looks like neither has a clear advantage in terms of strength if built properly.
