Tranny Guts

I have a question. I know the V6 and V8 trannys (700R4) have different bellhousings and are not interchangable. I have a V8 700R4 that is in need of a rebuild. I also have a pretty freshly rebuilt 700r4 from my V6 firebird. Does anyone know if the inside parts of the V6 and V8 trannys are the same (valve body, clutch assemblies, etc...)? I just had the wild idea that instead of rebuilding the V8 tranny I could just basically use the casing and swap the V6 components into it. Is that possible?

Thanks for any replies.

I'm not sure it about it, but I think you can do that. If I remember right its only the bellhousing that was diffrent.

The input shaft is different to mate with the smaller torque converter. Also remember that the V6's usually had less clutches in some of the clutch assemblies.

In that case I might as well just do the rebuild. Thanks for the replies
