whats the normal operating temp for my 700r4?

whats the normal operating temp for my 700r4 i have a autometer gauge that goes from 100-250 and the sender i had i damaged it the send came apart so i crimped it back on with the nail pulling side of a hammer. So i was wonder if the readings could be off from this. Also it was only like 5 mins i was driving around at 30 mph and it read about 206.also i have the sender mounted on the feed line right before it goes to the radiator.

Back up to the top; I'm wondering what other people with trans temp gauges show as a normal operating temperature. I want to add a trans temp gauge this summer, along with an air/fuel gauge.

160° - 180° for one with an external cooler,or coolant temp plus 10-15° for one with only the radiator cooler

If it gets very much over 200°, its life will be considerably shortened. Bad things begin to happen to the fluid and the clutches at around 230°.

Im getting a temp gauge for mine soon. Id like to keep mine running at around 170 degrees or so. I want this tranny to last.

I have a 18000gvw cooler now but ill go bigger if needed.
