Posi swap?
I have the posi and axles out of an 87 camaro with 2.73 gears and drum brakes. I want to swap the posi into my 82 Z28 camaro with open 3.73 gears anddrum brakes. What is involved? Can i just take out the differential out of my car and just throw in the posi? Do i have to use the 87 axles? Is it even possible, or do i have to have the rear "setup" again?
THanks

You need a ring gear spacer, to put the 3-series gear onto the 2-series carrier. You don't need a gear setup in all likelihood; check the backlash to be sure. The pinion won't need to be disturbed in any case.
Splines and axles are the same. Use the best axles out of the 4 (all 4 are the same).
That, and about 2 quarts of fluid and one thing of additive, should about do it. I'd recommend putting new axle bearings and seals in it while you have it apart.

I ordered one from the local speed shop a few years ago. It was about $50 then (1999). They probably got it it from DTS.

Re: Posi swap?
Why would you revive a 4 year old thread for a new question?
You will need a 3 series posi, and the gears. Also a full rebuild kit, which includes shims, crush sleeve, bearings, and seals.
