Friend of mine swapped a 700R4 into his car and doesn't like how the 2-3 shifts are. There's a big delay unlike the 1-2 shift which happens right when he moves the shifter. The 2-3 shift happens like 1 to 1.5 seconds after he moves the shifter. Is this normal or is there something going on? The transmission shop that built it says it's normal but I would hope it isn't. Thanks for any info.
If this is happening at WOT?, at what rpm is it (when you attempt to make the 2-3 shift)? Is there a spinup/cutloose? or a long slide shift? or just a delay?
Yes it's happening at WOT, he has to shift closer to 5,000 instead of 6,000 because the rpms just keep rising until the tranny shifts. The car keeps pulling just fine after he clicks the shifter for the 2-3 shift. The 1-2 shift, he shifts at 6,000 just fine. To me it's a delay, it's still a firm shift but doesn't happen when you want it to

If the 1-2 shifts are happening at 6,000 rpm at WOT in the "drive" position (governor), then you will not be able to shift at a lower rpm, when doing it manually on the 2-3 shift. You will have to go to a lower rpm (WOT) governor, to get what you want, when moving the shift lever.
Well, from what I found out today... He has tried 3 different governors and none helped. I'm not sure what type he tried though. All this is happening while manually shifting at WOT. I'll try and talk to the tranny guy to see what things he's done but he's said in the past that all 700R4s do this
If I were to pay what my friend has paid, I'd be seriously pissed off to find that out afterwards.

my stock one does taht as well... The 1-2 is jsut fine but the 2-3 takes forever.
Glad I don't have a 700R4 then, I wouldn't be able to stand it. I like my shifts to happen as soon as I click it to the next gear hehe.
