After having my firebird sit in my garage for over 2 months (family health problems admidst trying to fix it), I got it up and running a couple weeks ago and back on the road.... only to find out that the damn thing won't shift into 3rd gear! Before I parked it in the garage it was running fine, so I am wondering what it could be.

I have not a damn clue about trannys, but my dad (who is the one in the hospital) said it could be that the valves inside the tranny got gunked up while it sat for so long, and thats what's keeping it from shifting beyond second. Does this sound like it could be the problem? If not what else could it be? And how much $$$ am I looking at to have a shop look at it and fix it? (Don't have the time nor the experience to mess w/ it myself)
