Gears don't come in a rebuild kit.

GM kits are designed to produce granny's grocery cart shifts. They are the direct opposite of a performance build. "GM smoothies" are the exactly wrong thing for what any of us here on this board are trying to make a transmission do.

Get somebody else to build your transmission. Sounds like this guy is a dealer tech, and that's all he knows, is what goes on in new car dealerships. Specifically, get somebody that knows how to build racing ones; whatever you do, don't get it done by the low bidder, and don't use GM clutches in a performance transmission.

Actually, alot of builders (primarily 700R-4/4L60-E) are using GM parts because of there place in the performance transmission. Borg Warner "Hi Energy" Bands and clutches come stock in 1998 and later 4L60-E and will back service to the very first 700's built in 1982. The infamous "Borg Warner 29 element sprag" that just about every tranny site has listed, is OEM replacement starting in 1997. GM was a little late in the game when it came time to "beef up" the Reaction Sun Shell, but they finally steped up to the plate and offered something decent, which utilzes a thrust bearing instead of a washer and is now coming from the factory heat treated. Many builders like to mention the fact that they use Teflon coated front pump bushings, well GM has been using them since '96.
Some things that TransGo uses like the servo cushion spring to reduce a 3-2 downshift clunk when using a Vette servo, has been in the Vettes since '91.
And don't forget about the infamous "L35" converter. Thats the converter that came stock in V6 "grocery getter" SUV's and pickups
Yes, I'm a dealer tech and I use Genuine GM parts as much as I can. When GM doesn't offer what I need, then I go aftermarket
