T5 Grindes when shifting into 5th

T5 Grindes when shifting into 5th. 1-4 are completely fine, but when I try to shift into 5th it sounds like the gears are grinding, then it goes into gear. Does anyone know what causes this? My guess is the tranny is prob. in need of a rebuild soon.

inside the case itself is the main shaft which the gears are on...the cluster shaft is under that which the power is diverted through the output...
the 4th gear and 5th gear "sandwhich" the case..in other words the 4th gear is inside the case and the 5th is outside...

the problem..on how your describing it sounds like your 5th synchro assembly is worn..pretty easy fix...but of you want to rebuild it then i suggest www.hanlonmotorsports.com

you didnt say what year your car is so the price on the rebuild kit will be determined by which t-5 design you have....

up to 87 is the first and weaker design..or the NWC (non world class)...87 and up is the WC...

169 for the NWC kit and 199 for the WC....
also get the video!!..watch it twice before you do it and during it
i just did it to mine about amonth ago...very very easy..really starit forward...

The tranny is a 92 World Class. I believe I have purchased parts from them before. I would probably rebuild it myself. I rebuilt my 700r4 when I had it. I just recently did a manual conversion and the tranny I used has about 70,000 miles on it so I figured it may be a syncro. Does hanlon have just individual parts to? Thanks for your help.

unless you have a press then a gear puller isnt nessesary
the rear cluster bearing has to be pressed on...both maninshaft and the input...the 5th driven gear has to be pressed off...

yes hanlon sells parts alone...pretty competitivly priced to

the only "tools" you need are a 3/16 pin punch, caliper and snap ring pliers...preferbly inner and outer...

I'm gonna call them on monday. I got two Spare WC Borgs out of v6 camaros if anyone needs one. Each has about 50,000 on it. Just needs a v8 mainshaft. Same gearing and internal parts just fewer splines.

The mainshaft is the same from a 6-cyl to a V8.

The things that are different are the clutch gear and the countergear. The clutch gear has different spines; and the 2 gears have a different ratio where the clutch gear drives the countergear.
