grinding noise when driving

When I drive I can occasionally hear a metallic grinding/grating noise. It seems to be coming from the middle or rear of car. I think its a u-joint or the rearend. A clunk is sorta heard when going into gear. What could it be?

Thanks,

Matt

That's either a U-joint or the tranny mount. On these cars, the tranny mount is by far more likely.

I forgot about the tranny mount, duh

What could the grinding noise be though?

Thanks,

Matt

The 2 metal parts of the mount grinding against each other (assuming the rubber is totally gone.)
