Tranny to DRIVE all the time...even in PARK!

Hiya guys,

well, after fiddling with the car all day, I have concluded that my TH700 Tranny is screwed. I think.

See, when I shift into gear, the whole care lunges and shakes, as if it WANTS to MOVE. This makes the engine RPMs drop so sharply that the car usually dies unless I give it some gas. This phenomena even shows itself i Park! Engine idle will be steady and then alla of a sudden it will act like it is under stress...very much like when you release the clutch on a manual. One time when I put it in drive, one of the rear wheels actually rotated a quarter turn (I was on a dirt road).

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I spoke to one guys that said my converter/lock up was burnt out.....I'm getting that "arm and a leg" feeling...

Yeah it sounds like your converter is trying to stay locked up all the time. Time for a higher stall I think.

OK...so now I'm gonna start calling mechanics. There are only 3-4 in my area that can do the job. How do I make sure that they donīt try to push a complete rebuild on me?

When the converter breaks...what does that entail? How much of the tranny actually needs rebuilding? I know this will vary..but I'd still like to have a general idea...

well if its just the converter, just get the converter, that shouldnt have to rebuild anything on the tranny unless its acting funny too
