Electric Speedo on 89 Camarow6speed, possible to hook it up through the computer?
I have had my six speed in for about two years and have always had the speedo hooked directly to the plug on the transmission. My question is, can i run it through the computer so I can still change things in the prom that need to know the speed of the car?
Thanks

The speedometer in pre-1990-92 camaros are driven by the speedo, therefore even if you do plug it into the computer it will still display the speed incorrectly.
as far as connecting it to the VSS input on your computer, it wont read it correctly because 4thgens use a different pulse than the 90-92 ones do.
Your best bet if you want to do a T56 and keep your guages, is to buy a converter. (a devise which reads the pulses, and turns your speedo cable at the proper speed, they run about $300)

Nope. Ya need to get a convertor box. T56's VSS's put out arround 40,000 pulses per mile as where your VSS in your car (it used to be on the back of the cable driven speedo) put out 2,000 ppm.

I want to know why no one here has any plans on how to build your own converter. I have been looking and found some plans that may or may not work but, I think I will need to get some books and find out what needs to be made for sure. I think I will end up buying the dakota converter before I have the chance to build it. any way once I get it done (long from now) I will be sure to post it so everyone can make there own and save the 80.00 for more HP
