did my pump go out or in the band shot?

ok firsl off let me start with saying this. i have a 1991 firevird that i did a v-6 to v-8 swap on. the trans i put in there is a 27 spline 700R-4 (old school) i just got it rebuilt less then 500miles ago here is what happen the 305 i swaped in has a bad cam and exhust on 8 won't open so i picked up an old school SBC350 4-bolt main i'm driveing to the shop as the swap can be done and i'm a block away there is a car in front of me about to turn so i slow down. after he turns on its clear i give it gas and the motor revs up then it grabs and chipped the tires then i lost all power i alost all gears. only park works there was no big bang no noise of any kind. the fuild is clean as hell no burned up smell... i know no clue. i'm guessing the pump went out of a spring in the vavle body broke or somehting

whats your input?

Let me start by saying, The company i work for has alot of chevy 1/2 ton pickups(700r4's) They've all gone out at least once. When they go out, they seem to still retain 1st and 2nd gear. A friend of mine has a suburban with a 700r4, his did nothing when it went out, like yours....He could barely get it to move by revving the motor up. The final diagnoses was the pump. But I wouldn't rule out the torque converter either.
there's my .02 worth,
thanks

I'd take it back and have them do it again....Still haven't seen one able to be rebuilt and shift tight yet. Usually 2nd to 3rd feels like it takes longer to shift (i would call it slipping, they say 700r4's are "light shifters," whatever that is) after being rebuilt. The trannys that have been replaced by the dealership seem to work fine, but i don't think they rebuild them either.
