OK, my 700r4 is starting to go. Don't notice anything when doing regular driving, but at WOT the shifts are getting very mushy. Also I notice an abnormal noise coming from the tranny when I first start up the car, for a minute or so, then goes away. I have decided to go to a TH350 or TH400 because the car is not a daily driver, and I like to Drag race about once per month or so (at the local track of cours). Where is a good place to get a performance rebuilt one, prefereably in TExas, Im in Houston. Also what should I look for? like specific features, brand name parts, etc.

I am thinking about doing it myself, with help from friends. I undestand I need a 9" tailshaft to be able to use the stock drive shaft, and a conversion kit from the 700r4 to the TH350. What about switching to an aluminum drive shaft at the same time, would be a good time I guess? Any help appreciated.

 

transmissions can be picked up from a lot of rebuilders, or even jegs. i'd stick with making one change at a time, lot easier to find problems if something goes wrong, and it's not a lot of work to swap out drive shafts.
