In need of urgent help -> TCC lockup question with B&M kit
In need of urgent help -> TCC lockup question with B&M kit
Ok, I need to have my lockup working by tuesday morning , lol , so I need help guys.
first of all it's a 85 TA with 700r4, lockup TC etc.. pretty much stock
ok , how the problem
I don't have ECM anymore so I bought the B&M lockup kit from JEGS ($150
)
all it does is puts a sender between the speedo cable , creates a VSS signal out of that and sends that to the little box that in turns locks up the tranny at certain speeds , pretty simple and I have it all hooked up except... there's a yellow wire which goes to the 4 pin plug (front outer pin), you are supposed to hook it up to the brake switch and then run it to the control box.
they mentioned it needs to be connected to the wire that disengages TC and that it's on the brake switch
any clue what wire that is ??? I'm all for probing wires and testing to find out but I have no ECM and I'm sure I just cut the wire off somewhere and taped it up so no matter what I probe I don't think I can find out which one I need to splice the yellow wire into.
any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you ahead of time
I'm trying to do it right without using switches that I have to control etc... but sometimes the ghetto way seems soo much easier , lol

I searched the archives and found this... can someone confirm this before I go splicing and cutting ?
"The pnk/blk wire on one side of brake switch is hot wire from 10 A. gauges fuse. The ppl wire on other side of brake switch goes to plug on tranny to energize TCC solenoid.
Tan/blk wire coming out of plug is from TCC solenoid. If you wire one side of your switch to tan/blk and wire the other side of your switch to a wire to GROUND, when you flip the switch to close the contacts, the converter should lock up. This does not run the
wiring through the fourth gear pressure switch. Therefore,
whenever you flip the switch, the converter should lock up, and
it should unlock when you push on the brake pedal.

want to check it out for yourself. Happy New Year!"

My 82 Trans Am has two switches that are connected to the brake pedal lever. From memory, one handles the tail lights, the other looks after cruise control and the TC clutch.
If you get under your dash and look at the top of your brake lever you should see two rectangular looking devices, with large plastic pins coming out from them which touch up against the brake pedal. These devices should have connectors on them. Wire up to these and that should achieve what you want.

I have only one brake switch with two plugs on it , one white plug and one black plug each plug having two wires... (I tapped off one for my 3rd brake light a while ago , anyways...)
purple/pink/white/orange
purple/pink/white/orange
I just found out (I think) that I only have one brake switch due to not having cruise control.
so here's the scenario
I need to splice the yellow wire that right now goes from the 4pin tranny plug into the B&M control box and connect each side of the yellow wire to the brake switch (somewhere/somehow), that's what I need to know.
either I tap off the orange and the white
or tap off the purple and the pink
, question then becomes does the wire from the tranny goes to the orange or white ? etc...

ok I came to a conclusion that one side of the yellow wire (not in the pic btw , that's part of the B&M kit) should go to the purple and the other to the pink...
just looking for some sort of confirmation or for someone to call me a dumbass and explain to me just why I am one , lol
