How strong is 89 10bolt
i have a 89 IROC and im putting in a 357 that has 400ftlb and 440 HP. and some radial tires. the guys at the machine shop said i would be fine that all i would do under alot of tourge is brake traction and therefore not putting stress on my rear end. they said i would brake my rear only if i put some drag tires on it and caught traction but will my rear end still hold up with radials on it ??
same rear is in 4th gens with the ls1, runs low 13s from the factory. lot depends on how you apply the power to the ground. a girddle and welding the axle tubes will add a lot of strength.
10 bolts are really weak, and instead of buying new gears, new posi, and axles every time you go to the track, 1500-2k for a 12 bolt would be a good idea. It will take a lot of power to destroy a 12 bolt. Just a thought. Your gunna put on DR's or slicks at some point to get traction cause you will spin.

10 bolts are junk, u can kill them behind a stock engined car. been there already. if u really wanna bullet proof the rearend get a ford 9" setup. lighter hten the 12 bolt and stronger too i think. even richmond the gear company says 350hp is over the limit for a 10 bolt even with a girdle etc.
