torque converter stall speed

I purchased a 700R4 tranny w/ the stock converter from someone. The tranny came out of an '85 IROC w/ T.P.I v-8.. Can anyone tell me the stall speed of the stock converters??
I am putting it into an 81'Z28 w/ a 400C.I. Sbc that has 3.70 posi rear.. I wanna make sure it will be ok b4 I install it. The cam is 2 steps above stock.. I dunno the exact specs, but it's got a noticeable idle, but it aint radical.. I am just concerned with the gearing in my rearend not matching up to good with the stock converter of the 700R4.. I dont know what it behind my th-350 now, but it is awesome off the line..
The trans itself was beefed up a little as per the prev. owner with a shift modifier kit, 11-vane pump, corvette servo & a 30 or 31 spline input shaft.. ( i forgot which one).. So I think it should survive behind my motor as long as I dont abuse it..
The motor itself is like I said, a 400sbc w stock bottom end & 997 casting heads, comp cams cam, 1.52 magnum rockers, performer intake, 750 performer carb, tri-y hedders, stock ignition, dual exhaust with "X" crossover into Thrush mufflers..And I will be running 275/60R15 rubber.

Any help/advise/info would be greatly appreciated..Feel free to email me @

most stock stalls are around 1600 rpm. Just hold the brake down as hard as you can and rev the car until the tires start to spin. It's not the best way to determine the stall speed, but it works and you will definitely be able to stall past 1200 rpm.

Thanks alot guys.. I guess that makes up my mind. I gotta wait till I atleast get the cash for a converter.. Need either a 2500Stall speed - 3000Stall speed to mate perfectly with my motor & rear end gears..

But thanks for the info..Appreciate it..
