Transgo shifts

I put a transgo performance shift kit in my car, and the shifts are acctually smoother then the orginal setup. The shifts are clean. the downshifts into passing gear arent harsh, is this normal? 700r4 1st type vb

Are the shifts smoother everywhere?, or just at part throttle?

What Transgo Part # did you get? Trango has a wide range of kits available from. A lot of them are professional kits to correct Factory problems. Their High Perf kits are quite sophisticated and can be built to various levels of performance. They build " Shift Improvement kits, RV kits and HyPO kits .

A simple Stage 1 mod for example may actually shift smoother at light throttle than the factory kit....but at WOT it should " bark " the tires. Do not confuse "brute force shifts" with quick shifts. A lot of kits shift so hard that they break parts. They " Bang " in the gears. That is not necessary at all.

TV cable adjustment is critical. Also, make sure that you followed all the steps and did not misplace any check *****.

Boost valve size is very important as well. Early 700R4's had small boost valves. With an early 700r4 you may need to change to a Vette 2-3 servo, if you have not already done so. Early 700r4's require more mods than later models. Generally you have to change the TV boost valves and 2-3 servo as mentioned to get a firm shift. All the Part#'s required are in the instructions.

Transgo kits are for the more experienced enthusiasts. Some mfg's rely on the " Brute force and ignorance method "..they just crank the sytem pressure so high that ANY tranny HAS to shift hard. That's not the proper way. Transgo does it the right way. They tailor their kits to each particular transmission.

My early Gen 700r4 ( 1986 ) had the full Transgo treatment, including HD sprags, HD planetaries, 9 disk clutch pack, HD bands, Vette Servo, Modified pump, hardened pump vanes and sealing rings, etc, etc. It would hold any gear to any RPM, WOT downshift from 4th to 3rd, downshift at any speed ( gotta watch that!!! ) . Driven normally you couldn't tell it from a stock tranny. Stomp on it and it was a whole different ball game.

Thats the best description of those "other" kits I have ever heard. I'll have to remember that one

I have the same problem that Luther6704 has but I installed a B&M transpak. I changed the original servo for the corvette servo but still the same, also I try adjusting the Tv cable and it doesn't do anything.

I used a different year 700r4.
the car had a 1987 tranny and I used a 1989 tranny that came out of my brother's RS. Could that be the problem?????? or something else?

thanks for your help!!

the shifts are snappy at part throttle but very smooth when you punch it to wot. i got the performance shift improver kit. which includes the 2-3 vette servo

What are the hole sizes that you drilled for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th? What rear end gear ratio do you have? What is the diameter and stall of your torque converter? Did you install the new boost valves? Let me know?

I drilled the holes as per instructions with the bit supplied, the rearend is a 3.23 posi, the converter is stock, and i installed the boost valves. When i road tested the car today, i had a crisp 1-2 shift, and a soggy 2-3 and i could only tell that i shifted into 4th by reading the tach. But as per the instructions stated i would have to shift between 3rd and 4th manually, because 3rd gear didnt redline when it shifted. What would be the proper procedure to downshift from 4th at about 2200 rpm to 3rd?
Would you recomend me seeing a transmission specalist to make sure everything checks out ok? Are there any risks in doing this to my transmission, like clutch life and duribility?

o also i put 2 washers into the second acumaltor since thats what they recomended
