4l60e swap?!?

I recently found a 1993 z28 selling in my area for 1000$ but its been wrecked. The transmission and motor and interior is all good. Would a 4l60e transmission swap be difficult? Only problem I could see is the wiring. I thought about installing the lt1 with the fuel injection but to much work for a daily driven car.

I know the 4l60es are alittle stronger than the 700r4s...would this swap be to much of a headache?

I will probably use the motor...just use a carb on it. Will be simpler that way.

me thinks not. The 4L60E is a computer controlled transmission, so you would have to find a way to integrate the 93's ECM with your car. Why not swap the complete motor, trans, wiring, and the computer? The motor swap has been done before by quite a few people on here, so you'd have help with it.

a (edit: 1993) 4l60e isn't going to be any "stronger" than your 1988 700r4.

I actually have a 91 700r4 now. 4th gear feels like it slipping already. Im thinking about doing a th350 swap not sure yet.

I would like to use the lt1 in my car but the wiring could take forever. And this is my only car at the moment. I would like to run the lt1 motor it would be really nice. Ill see what happens.

As long as you get the entire harness and computer, you could probably knock out the wiring in a day or so. Just make sure you have the schematics for both cars before you start, especially the gauge pods

Guages shouldnt be to hard to wire. They are all mechanical except the oil pressure.

I don't think im gonna try to tackle it. I know it would end up taking forever. I have no garage, no time, and I cannot go without a car for any period of time. So I've kinda ruled out the idea. Im wanting to get a Jeep for a second car tho. If I get it I could do whatever to the camaro.

If it's a 93, then it's a 4L60 not a 4L60E.
4L60 is the same as a 700R4, just a different name.

Zepher is right, 1993 F-cars got a 700R-4/4L60 just like the thirdgens.
And a '93 won't be any stronger than the '91.

Well maybe the 4l60 would be in better working condition. Who knows. I would like to run the lt1 in my car for the gas milage but I fear tackling a wiring project like this. It would probably be worth it tho.

BTW what are the differences between 1993 lt1s and the 1994+ lt1s? I know something is different/

93 F-body is a batch fire Speed Density setup, 94+ is sequential MAF system.

are the newer trans in the camaros the 460les stronger than the 700r4, and if so what makes them stronger? Does it have a better input shaft, cause i know thats the weakness of the 700r4

The reaction sun shell has always been a failure point as far as hard parts go in the 700r4... Same goes with the 4l60e.. Your hard parts are for the most part the same in the 4l60e's.. Certain exceptions are the 5-planetery gearsets and 13 vane front pump in some of the later models.. Still, the overall torque rating of components is the same.. The 4l60e can be more reliable than, say a 1984 700r4, or even a 1988-93 700r4, but stronger, not really..

However, a cool new transmission that I have heard of GM producing is the 4L65E. This is essentially a 4L60E with upgraded hard parts (reinforced sun shell, hardened input shaft, heavy-duty sprags, etc) that will still of course fit in applications desiring a 700r4/4l60/4l60e...
