Must be Full Moon... Blew the Diff
Jeeeze...must be a full moon or something. Everyone blowing tranny's and diffs lately. Was cruisin' home from Sammy J's the other night when diff started to howl. Out of the blue just like that. Didn't walk on it or nothin'..... Thought maybe the pinion nut had worked loose.
Next day get up bright and early at the crack of noon
Driving car to shop....oh ***p it's getting worse. Now it sounds and feels like maybe it's the tranny and not the diff. Shift lever vibrating now.
Anyhoo drop the diff cover and there's a 3" piece of the pinion gear stuck to the magnet. Phew...actually relieved as a R&P is a lot easier to repair than a tranny. Caught it in time. No other damage. Tooth came off pretty clean.... no other metal captured on magnet.
A new R&P, some new bearings and I'll be back in business. New Motive 3.73 gears at Best Buy....$208 CDN... pretty good deal.
Not too upset, Gears have been in there for about 8 years. Surprised they lasted this long with the HP I'm pumping out. Not a Drag Racer BTW.

that sucks, luckily it should be an easy fix.
hopefully your pinion depth is easy to set. usualy the variance is in the housing, not the pinion, so you will likely be able to get away with the pinion shim that is in there now, but be sure to tripple check the depth
