No I didn't. Here, I just "copied" and now I'll "paste":
"The T-5 is fine unless you powershift and launch with slicks"
See? I said WITH SLICKS.

Sorry about the "tone" but it's aggrivating when people talk "smack" about something that isn't really true. Of course you could "blow" a T-5 with a 305. I don't doubt that for a second. As a matter of fact, when I was a retarded punk a$$ed kid, I blew 2 of them with my 305. I'm not that punk-kid anymore, and my current T-5 works very well. Granted, I'm sure I could go outside right now, fire up my car, and destroy my T-5 in less than 30 seconds. But I'd rather run low 13's with it.

Tom,

What kind of lube do you run in your T5.

Gear Lube
ATF
other [ I was told to run straight 30w oil]

Thanks
Matt

the bottom line is, way more t5's explode behind stock motors than survive behind built motors.

if your gonna beat on your car, get something other than a t5.

if you have a t5 that is working behind your 3 second motor....thats great, you got lucky

Good question and interesting theory you're onto here. I saw you mention this above, and I almost responded but then didn't. So anyway, to answer your question, I run ATF. However, I change with every engine oil change, which, due to the way I use it, is every 2000 miles. So the trans get's new ATF every 2000 miles.

As for gear oil, I heard (so this is second hand info) that the T-5 cannot use gear oil because it is "too thick" and won't "fit" between the bearing rollers and races on the main shaft bearings. The clearance -or preload- on these bearings is 0.0000", +or- 0.0001, IIRC -it's been awhile since I rebuilt one. So from what I "heard", if you run gear lube, the bearings essentially squeeze the lube out so in essence they run dry, and fail. I don't know if I believe this. I'm skeptical, but there a piece of info, accurate or not I don't know.

"anesthes", I like your post. Interesting about the manual/emissions info, but how did they get the TPI vette to pass with that joke of a 4+3, but not an F-bod? Also, under decel, V8 F-bods (and maybe other GM's) completely stop fuel delivery. The injectors shut off completely down to about 1200 RPM. How could they produce high emissions with no fuel under decel? I agree with the ease of T-5 R&R. It's cake. 40 minutes is an accurate time.

I believe that why I was told to run straight 30w oil.
Thicker than ATF but not to thick that it wont get in the bearings.

I trust the guy at the local yard who sold me the tranny and he said if you want it to last long run straight 30w oil.

ATF is to thin, gear lub is to thick.

But so far every time I ask about that someone say stick to ATF others say they run 80-90 with no problems.
