I have some general confusion over my transmission. I have an automatic, 85 Trans Am TPI. The trani is a four speed with overdrive, and I have the code for a 700R4 and a code MX0...which if I remember right has something to do with the overdrive. But the thing is, the filter and gasket set for the 700R4 do not fit my car. The filter i took out and replaced does not fit the 700R4. How do I find out what the heck I'm dealing with? (Not that it matters too much as long as the thing works) I know the guy who owned this car from day one and he's not the type to replace a transmission...how much would change if it was rebuilt or something? Obviously I don't know too much about transmissions, so I'm kind of at a loss here. Any clues?
