too loose of a converter?

If my conver is way too loose will it really hurt my top end. I took my car to the track and it leaves good (1.82 60') But after that it just revs. It seems to stay around 5000. Is my conveter too loose

3500 stall and 3.73s on a 305 TPI???? Yeah, I'd say its too loose. I had a 2800 stall and 3.73s and I had to swap the rear gear to 3.42.....

I am running 3.73s and a 2800rpm Vigilante converter behind my 383 Superram motor. Right now I am breaking the new motor in, half gas and revs 4500rpm and lower, but I can say that the drivetrain is damn tight during conservative driving, can barely tell theres a big stall in there. However employ some pedal and throttle response is stunning, it stalls to right near advertised speed and then proceeds to break the rear tires free and cut through rpms, it is apparent that the drivetrain has transitioned from stalled to loaded. However I cant yet comment on WOT behavior as it hasnt seen more than half gas, i expect that WOT will be very interesting.
