T-5 tranny question

Alright I have been reading on how the t-5 is a weak motor and it seems that it is not recommended for a 350 which I had planned on putting into my car in the late spring early summer of next year. I do not want to put a weak tranny into my car but I do want to keep it a stick if possible. My possible hp out of the 350 will range from 330-400hp. I have two camaro's one is pretty much a parts car being an 88 with a t-5 and my current 2.8 with a t-5. I had planned on using the one out of the 305 but I dont know if there is a difference in the trannys I have now or not? So basically what I am asking is if there is a difference in the tranny's I have, and What would be a nice setup for a 350 with the hp given?

Thanks
Rupert

I think the input shaft is deffrent.. (think)

The best I find.. is to buy a World calss T-5.. and
rebuild it with the G-force kit.
Straight cut gears... plenty strong

I've got a WC T5 for sale for $300. It's got almost everything included. PM me.

Is there anything wrong with the t5 behind the 305? If you don't beat your car mercilessly that tranny would be fine at that power level. It all comes down to how you drive it.

Not straight cut though. Just not as much of an angle, and the gears themselves are a little wider. At least, in the synchronized G-Force gearset.

They do have a "Dog ring" type that's straight cut, but It's pretty much for strip use.

There's also a Tremec TKO or a T-56.....also good trannys, but T-56 being the weaker of the three. If you don't drive it like you stole it all the time, the WC T-5 will take quite a bit more abuse then people give them credit for.

The tranny behind the 305 needs to be worked on. I was told it needs some kind of fork and a few gears replaced, would this be the time to get something custom done to it and what would that be. Like a good setup and how much it may cost

Also, I do not intend on beating my car to death. I want the V-8 with power for more show than racing. I may occasionally being 4 times a year race someone at a light . But I just want the sound of a V8 and to let other people know that I have it. So beating the tranny to death is something I am not worried about. The WC tranny you all talk about is it just the t5 I have in the 305 or is it basically the same but with some mods done to it?

Your 88 should be a WC. 88 Was the first year for them. WC just ment that Borgwarner redesigned them to handle more power. here is a good web site to explain the differences.

Look at item 22
