Tranny died after car stolen

Well last sunday morning my car was stolen and recovered with in one and half days. But during that time my brand new tires musta got smoked. There was rubber all over rear quarter panel.
Today on my way to work I hear something like i ran over a huge rock then hawling from under the car.
stoped immediatly to access damage. None found but noises in tranny when in gear.
Made it one mile than couldnt leave from stop.
towed to my shop were i work.
pushed inside shop while In Park.
What i thinking is getting used 700r4 and 350 out of a totaled 83 p/u.
ive read about the torque arm not bolting up.
what needs to be changed?
can i use cover off my old tranny?
thanks
brian

Does your insurance cover this damage? Certinly if the car was driven hard, and wrong during the theft you should be entitled to compensation.

That is, ofcourse, if you have full coverage on the car.

I think you just have to change the tailshaft housing for the torque arm to bolt up.

You are correct EvilCartman. Also make sure that the 83 p.u. is really a 700r4. I didn't think that they used the 700r4 till 84??

The tranny isnt broke I think.
One of the mechanics told me to start it and put it in gear while running. then we heard awful noise from the rear.
then we pulled it in on lift
I spun one wheel and watched the other not spin.
Then we pulled the cover off the fluid coming out was dark brown and sparkly metal flakes in it.
Then the spider gears a pin and a bunch mangled metal parts all fell in to my hands.
So whats the best inexpencive way to do this?

Get a spider gear set I put a used set in my old rear and worked fine. Stock gears were pitted really badly. Shouldn't be much money. OR you can get the 100 dollar torsen take off posi unit from slp.
