9 bolt 3 series carrier??
I bought a 9 bolt rear end. The guy said it has 2.77 gears in it. Somewhere I got the info that to change to a higher gear I have to change the carrier. What is it and how to I get one?
Also what kind of limited slip diffs are in these, and which ones will fit?
Lastly, are the rotor and/or pads different from "regular" disc brakes, and can I rebuild the calipers?
Thanks,
Jason

hey,
yea u need a different carrier, (which is the acutal posi unit itself minus the gears) but they come in series 1,2,3, 3 being 3.27 and up gears, you might also try to see if u can find a ring gear spacer, that way u can use ur 2.77 carrier with higher gears...that 9bolt.com guy said he was gonna be gettign those sometime soon, also check on ebay, every now and then u can find the 9 bolt parts..

thats my 2 cents worth

So how badly do I need 3.xx gears anyway? I'm not really a drag racer. I plan on being on the highway 75% of the time. And these motors don't spin to 7 or 8k rpm anyway.

I did find this guy who has a bunch of stuff for 9 bolts. I think this stuff would probably work for someone who just needs to rebuild what they've already got.

well if ya got a automatic, say u got 3.27 gears not to bad on gas, ur gonna cruze around 2K at 55-65 mph, so its not to bad, if u got a manual 3.45 would be great...then if ya had a t-56 4.56 woudl be awesome, haha i think im gonna go with 4.56 10-bolt in my car, i have a t56 for it and all, so yea i would go no higher than 3.45 and u would have decent gas miliage, thats if u have an automatic...

I don't have an automatic. I have a T-5. I will probably bet the performance rebuild kit from G-force transmissions and re do what I have (anyone done business with them?)
Why would the 3.45 be better?

I can get the carrier and the gears from a local dealer... from $1200.00.
This is still cheaper than going to a 12 bolt or 9" Ford, right?
