If i was to swap out a 5 speed from an 89 rs to an 86 iroc auto will i have any problems in regard to the car starting. Im asking because i know 89 was that weird year with the resistor in the key and i was wondering if there was any connection between the key, ignition, computer and tranny. It may seem like a stupid question but i would hate to mess that up.

The VATS has nothing to do with the tranny, you can use it without a problem.
