Detent Cable

I thought my tranny might be going because all of a sudden the tranny is shifting really high and seems to be slipping. After further investigation this is what I have found. The fluid is low on the dipstick. It is on the add 1 pint line. This may explain the slipping. Also, my mechanic had bent the bracket a little that holds the TV detent cable becuase it was not allowing the throttle body to close all of the way. I think that this might be why the car is shifting so high and sloppy. I think the detent cable might be out of whack. Unfortunately the car is put away for the winter and I won't know for sure until I get back in August form the Army. Does anyone think these could be the problems or is the tranny probable starting to die?

No "detent cable". That's a term from the past (e.g., TH350).

You have a "throttle valve" cable. It is adjustable. Bending the bracket to adjust is evidence of ignorance that shouldn't be allowed around your vehicle. Improper adjustment will burn up the tranny because cable position not only affects shift points, it adjusts internal pressures to load.

So what do you think I should do. How can I adjust it without bending the bracket. I could not see how to adjust the tension on the cable.

It's discussed quite often. Here's an example: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=208501

press down on the metal "tab" and push it back in away from the throttle body/carb

step on the gas pedal to WOT.

Is the cable that you pull the red one or the yellow one? When it is actually hooked up ypu just pull the cable towards the front of the car right? Then you pull the throttle to w/o and the release the cable and the the throttle?

Ok,

On my car, (89 Iroc-Z) the TV cable runs under the plenum inside the runners. It has a small block on it behind the bracket. Push the button on the side of the block facing you with a screw driver and pull back on the black cable towards the firewall at the same time. Release the button on the block, take the throttle and push it to the wide open position. You will hear a ratcheting sound from the TV cable, when it stops ratcheting, release the throttle and it is adjusted. The yellow cable is the throttle cable, the red cable is the TV cable and the unmarked cable is the cruise control cable.

The Trickster!!!!!!!!!!!
