fluid color
alright,
this isn't exactly thirdgen related, but it's related to cars, so here goes. My girlfriend drives a 97' chevy prizim (the old geo crappers) neway, the thing was taken to the shop the other day cause the brake light was on (parkin brake) and the shop realized that her brake fluid was low, so the add fluid, no more light. They also noted that her transmission fluid was brown instead of the bright shiny red. I haven't gotten a chance to look at the car yet, to take a peak at the fluid, but heres the Q....if the fluid is brown, does this simply mean that it should be flushed nad filled? or is the transfilter bad? Another Q, is this a sign of a failing transmission. My bird had the fluid pushed out and in last year, and is doign good (except not working right now) but i've never noticed my fluid turning brown or anything, just wanna see where i should advise her to go. Thanks in advance.

The trans should be serviced every 30,000 miles. If it's due then all it should need is a filter and fluid. If the pan is full of sludge and metal/clutch particles then the trans may be on it's way out. Does the fluid smell burnt? That's a big indicator of its condition too. If it smells burnt it may be getting ready to take a dump.

hey, ede, or E-D-E, or whatever your name is, uhhhh, yeh, whatever. Just asking a Q, and i guess asking it in more than one location may be a bad idea, huh? And in the instance that someone with knowledgeable experience happens to not be on the tranny board, yet has had trouble of the same sort, in that case, wouldn't it be good to eh, post it on all the boads....but that's right, posts that contain 3 replys and no pictures tend to take up tons and tons of webspace, in equal comparison to posts of engine swaps that contain eh 30 pictures, yet the mods won't delete them cause they have a "personal" investment to how the swap turns out.
TKO, thanx on that info, i haven't gotten a chance to look at the car as i had stated, but i'll be sure to pull the indicator and take a good wiff, hopefully it won't smell bad enough that i fall over. And thanx on the 30,000 interval service routine, good info to know.
Dutch, This was something i was wondering about, i'm sittin here thinking of some ofthese newer cars, (my g/f had a 97 Buick Skylark b4 her prizim, and it had the new styled coolant) And i was wondering if Toyota or anyone happens to be usign a ATF that is a different color than the old school Domestics did....all the Q's in the world.
Thanks to everyone.

asking on one board is enough and asking on the correct board save mods the time and trouble of moving threads around to where they should be

Now, tranny fluid can be brown, that just means its time to be changed. However, if there is friction material, or the fluid smells burnt then I wouldn't touch it. Don't wanna go there.

Its like ringing someones door bell 4 times
The car you're asking about is a Toyota Corolla. It's not a third generation Firebird or Camaro. Questions about it don't belong on this board, especially not multiple times. I'm actually real surprised ede didn't lock the post or delete it.
