T5 work with a stock 305?

hey guys i have a basically stock 305 LB9 tpi. i will be putting a full exhaust on here soon and since i may have wrecked my tranny i am looking into puting a t5 manual into my car. im not looking to run it hard a lot and most of the time it will just be a cruiser. i would like to take it to the track maybe twice and a street race like every 3 monthes since we dont get much action. i was wondering if the T5 can hold up to a most normal driving and a little roughness every once in a great while.

It should be fine. Traction is what usually kills them. Also, make sure you get a good aftermarket shifter, because the stock one is junk and can cause you to miss shifts that can also kill the trans.

Get the trans out of a V8 car. The V6 ones aren't as strong, and the bellhousing won't work.

I exclusively use Pro 5.0 shifters. They aren't the cheapest, but I feel they are the best. I never seen or heard of one failing.

There are probably several setups for sale via the classified section of this site. A trans out of a junkyard is always risky. It isn't a bad idea as long as they give you a warranty. T5s are cheap to rebuild, so even if you got stuck with one that is screwed up it can be fixed for fairly cheap.
