Tranny problems..i think

Ok for the oddness this only happens sometimes, no sequence to it. Sometimes when i OD or D ill hit the gas from a stop and it will start to go them bog down then after about 2 seconds it will shoot the rpms up to 4K+ and go on along fine, also sometimes when stopped and in gear it will start idleing very slow to the point it almost cuts off, it does not do this in park or neutral. The other thing it does, in my past cars if i put the shifter in 1 and shift it to 2, it shifts to 2, this car doesnt it stays in 1st till it wants to shift. The other thing it does is shifts at a odd time, 1st gear shifts at 4000, 2nd at 3500 and 3rd at 4000. I was told the car had a rebuilt tranny and b&m shift improver kit.

If it has to do with the transmission it sounds like the torque converte isn't unlocking. That could mean the lockup solenoid is going bad or the torque converter itself is going bad...

It also sounds like a vaccum leak.

I am not sure if B&M is to blame here - but that kit has a "less than good" reputation around here.

where should i look for vacuum leaks? i dont hear any hissing when the motor is running, does it need to be in drive? Where is the torque convert solenoid located?

One way to check for leaks is to use a can of starter fluid and spray around the intake, heads, exhaust, and eventually reveal a leak. I don't think this is your problem tho. This sounds alot like a problem I recently had and the mechanic I used disabled the lockup solenoid (halfass)... you have to drop the pan to get to it but I don't know beyond that.

All I know is - I want lockup back.

would that cause it to be this odd working? Tonight it didnt do the hesitation, but did idle bad and not shift right. What more will happen if thats the right thing and it goes completely bad? Will it mess up more stuff in the tranny if i drive it the way it is?
