T-5 Rebuild...

I've spent countless hours searching around this forum but found little information on the t-5 rebuild (I was mostly restricted by the 3 letter resriction in the search, t-5 is only 2 letters...)

Anyway, I'm swapping a 700R4 for a T-5 and i wanted to see about rebuilding the tran before i put it in, it have 70,00 miles on it and I just wanted to get an idea of how difficult of a job this would be and what all I would need to do to be sure the tran lasts for a while without needed much if any more work. Also, where would i get the parts? I've read about a video but didn't find it out there. anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Well i've done a complete teardown and reassembly of a T5, and if you've never worked on transmissions before, its a task. Also it depends on how it is, with only 70K i wouldnt imagine too bad. But what was it behind? It still could have been abused. Some new parts for a T5 can be expensive, my mechanic buddy told me a T5 input shaft was like $400. So it depends on the condition really. As well you most likely wont be able to disassemble it without a hydraulic press, lots of bearings. But it may be possible.
Will be more work but possible.

An input shaft for $400? Sounds like someone's getting the shaft.

A full rebuild kit is $185 from Hanlon Motorsports. Gears are $450 a set for the "super alloy" ones. Individuals are like $65. The only thing you can't get is a mainshaft, which you wouldn't want anyway, because the last one I bought was $650.

It isn't that hard to rebuild a T5. You need snap ring pliers (inside and outside), a way to install and remove bearings, and basic hand tools. I've done several.

They carry the video, the actually made it. Input shaft $125
Main shaft I got mine from www.Nationaldrivetrain.com... $315
not too many left in the country (unless you want to pay $700 from the dealer), the manufacturers have stopped making them...

Hanlon has all the parts (except the main shaft) for repairs. Their prices are on the net.

Also, a press is needed to reassemble the trany parts. Taking them apart I was able to use a 3 jaw puller.

Snap ring pliars? You mean two screwdrivers and some patience.
