transmission harness

I just did a 700r4 to t-5 tranny swap in my 85 tpi i need to know what the electrical connector on the transmission did. i am not talkin about the speedo cable but the one forward of that. It had 3 prongs if i remember correctly. I know that it is not the neutral safety switch or the reverse lights. But my check engine light is on. so i was thinking maybe cruise control???? not sure, would love any help
thanks
JOHN

The electrical harness is for controlling the lockup switch on your torque convertor. A friend of mine switched from a 700r4 to a TH350 and he had to jump two of the terminals on that connector to get the check engine light to go off. I don't know which two you have to connect, but someone on this board probably knows which ones it is.

Your problem is in the console wiring. Your car didn't have a VSS in the trans. It is inside the speedometer in the cluster. Get a wiring diagram and make sure that the console wiring that was connected to the shifter is rewired for a T5 application. My guess is that you ahve two wires open that need to be connected.

The harness to the trans is just for the converter. Eventually you may get a code related to this. A custom PROM can keep it from tripping the code.

No, you do not ground the park neutral switch unless you want your car to run incorrectly and like an unmodified Painless Wiring POS harness.

The wires are supposed to be open (unhooked) in a T5 application.

That, and a correct PROM for a manual car should be all that's needed as long as the cable driven speedo is still in place so that the VSS is working.

Acording to my wiring diagram there are two wires that are connected in a T5 application that are part of the switch in a 700R4 application. That's how I wired my car when I swapped out the auto. Any idea what these wires do? I'm running off a Haynes manual. The diagrams are good, but not perfect. I've found a few flaws with them over the years.

i believe that in the t-5 the only two connectors that i have in the bottom were the reverse lights and speedo, but in the auto it had the reverse lights in the console, and there was another connector down there besides the speedo, which i am told had the torque converter lockdown, but that was only 2 wires and there was a third, and not sure what that was, i have not hooked my speedo up yet but am hopeing that when i do it will eliminate the vss problem, but doubtfull because everything i have heard says that it is in the transmission.
i am still trying to find some good wiring diagrams.
any help?

Grounding the park / neutral switch puts it in "park."

Re-read my post above. It is correct.

I told you before your car is setup wrong. It's setup like a Painless harness where the P/N switch is grounded to quell SES light codes. The car runs and it "works," but it doesn't work right. Remember your stalling? Symptom of a grounded P/N switch.

JMD, if I seperate these wires again will I get an SES light?

Eventually I am going to install the SGI-5 to provide a VSS signal to the ECM, but for now the car runs and drives, so if it will give me an SES I think I'll just leave it be.

Any idea where I can get a set of decent wiring diagrams? The ones I have are more like guidelines than actrual diagrams.
