How do you like them????
What did you have before????
How much higher are your RPM's compaired to your stock gears????
I am currently still running my 2.73's but looking to upgrade... Just looking for some opinions....

yep thems are stock on the old H.O. cars.. I swapped a set of 373's and a posi unit in place of my 273's with the open diff... huge difference... car actually has some ***** now.. how much higher r my r's? hmm i dunno? i did a auto to 5 speed swap at the same time so i really dont know.. i'd say about the same as rb's if i was goin the same speed in the same gear.
I swapped in a moser 9" with 3.70 gears... pretty close anyway. The acceleration difference was great, shorter gears really wake it up. My But I really don't like the highway RPMs. Maybe it is because I drive way too fast, but my crusing speed seems to keep me at 3,000 RPM, but I am usually around 80MPH.

Yeah that's about right, 3000 RPM in 5th at 80 mph.... doesn't seem the least bit excessive to me, although it's more than is really "necessary" to keep the car moving down the road.

My non-H.O. T/A came stock with 3:73 gears.
I believe this was because it came with the 5-speed and WS-6 option

Love my 3.70's. I went from a 2.73 open/drum 10-bolt to a 3.70 posi/disc 9-bolt and I absolutely love the gears. The difference in the takeoff is HUGE, and my highway RPMs aren't bad at all. About 2000rpm at 80mph in 6th.

I love the .59 ratio 5th gear in my trans!! Made a huge difference. Instead of 2600 RPM's doing 65 MPH, it now turns 1800 RPM's doing 65!
And yeah, 3.73:1 rear was stock for my car too, although it's a lousy one-legger....

I like my 3.73s alot... the car is very snappy and really bucks when you open it up.
I have a 5 speed, so my revs on the highway are usually around 2250-2500.. not bad IMO.
I think 3.73s are a good upgrade, but might be a little too much gear for some people, like those who do alot of highway driving... 3.23s or 3.42s would be pretty good too.

My main concern about gears is how it's going to run on the highway. If I can't run 90 nonstop on the hwy., I don't want it. Realistically, I want a little less rpm on the hwy. than what my 200-4R or 700-R4 give with the 3.73s but it's livable.
I definitely think 2.73's are for ultimate mileage if your car will comfortably pull 'em with OD.
We'll see how the T56 is with 3.73s.... very soon.

Had 3.23s, went to 3.73s. Love them. RPMS are fine thanks to my T56's 0.5:1 overdrive. I don't even turn 2,000 RPM at 80 MPH. The car is very well balanced with this combo. It's a blast to drive.

i like my 3.73's a lot, first gear flies by and second gear (700r4) will still pull till 80mph. But i do want a t56 for that 6th gear od ratio. 75=2.5k or so right now and that qjet likes to suck that fuel right down.

At the track I blew 3rd gear up in my transmission in the first pass (700r4)
I did another pass with only 1st and 2nd gear, I have 2.73s in the back.
I ran a 14.4 @ 94MPH without 3nd gear, bouncing off the rev limiter @ 6400RPMS. What im wondering is how high are your RPMS in 2nd gear @ 80 MPH With 3.73s! I had 2.73s and it was a stretch in 2nd to hit 90.
I just rebuilt my transmission, and im going to put in some 3.73's to back up the 3000 stall. In my opinion, 3.73's are just too much for the highway with a 700R4 if you do ALOT of highway driving, and I do... thats why im going to put some 28" tall radials on it to drop the rear gear to 3.42's, a much more comfortable highway ratio. then when i hit the track i put my nice stickys on 26" tall and get my 3.73's back

Its about 6k at 80 mph, my engine is an l69 (6k redline) and this was when i had slightly taller than stock tires on.
I drive 40 miles of highway each way to work 6 days a week and at about 70 mph or so im sittin at about 2400rpm i think. Gets like 22mpg highway (q-jet ofcourse), so i imagine an fi setup with 3.73's could pull atleast 25mpg.

Going from 2.73's to 3.73s did not feel as good as going from a stock 700R4/converter to a Probuilt 700R4 / 3000 stall Edge converter.
I just finished building the trans yesterday, installed it tonight. i have to yoink it back out to re-install a retainer ring which caused me to lose reverse, but i got to drive it anyways, and all i can say is torque multiplication rocks. thats why 3.73s rock, but i feel that the trans/converter do more for your SOTP in some cases, especially if they match together. I still have 2.73's in this car, and it feels like it has 4.11's compared to the original trans.
