Cleaning a tranny?

I just got the auto tranny form the guy who sold me his 1983 TransAm and was wondering what would be a good idea of how to clean it. Apparently there was a leak and oil spilled all over the tranny. So should I put cleaner on it and then power wash it or what?

Yup, that works well.

Just make sure you cover all the holes that lead into it; where the drive shaft goes, the torque converter, TV cable, cooler lines, etc.

Gunk "Engine Bright" or the equivalent, maybe a store brand which might be alot cheaper... basically diesel fuel in a spray can.
