driveline clunking

I noticed a clunking noise coming from my car when changing from D to R(vice versa). Would that be more indiciative of a tranny, drive shaft or alxe problem?

tranny mount? damn never heard of one of them breaking, well actually i do recall someone posted about a similar problem and it was the trans mount. buy a ES poly mount they're bullet proof.

I really don't do much hard launching... my baby is mostly for cruzin'... Would I notice much vibration from the ES mount vs. one from Anchor or the like??

Re: driveline clunking

like mr dude said.

when mine was starting to go out i noticed slight bumping noises when the car shifted gears, after a few days the bangs got louder.

checked my trans mount, yup, it was all ripped up. swapped in a ES poly mount, never had a prob again.

You shouldn't feel any vibration at all. I just put a ES one in my LT1 and took it up to 120 to see. The only vibrations I felt were not because of the mount.

a clunking noise huh? sounds like u-joints to me. And you dont want a driveshaft coming loose at 65 mph because it acts like a pole vault. Change them even if that clunking is the tranny mount!!!

<---- had a clunking noise

Mine had a clunking noise in my gta, it ended up being the lon torsion bar the runs parrallel with the driveshaft, it was missing the mounts.

That would be the torque arm mounts. That along with the tranny mount and U joints would be the first things I would check out. You can't really see if the tranny mount is bad. Since it is so cheap it is good insurance to change it anyways. I could not tell that mine was bad because it didn't show and visual signs. After I changed it I knew how wrong my previous diagnosis was.

I think

I'll start with the ES tranny mount, as I already have the ES torq arm bushing brand new(about 3mo now). From there if it persist, I'll replace the ujoints.
