Depends on what your present rear axle is, which is in most case for RS is 2:73 Auto with a 2-series carrier. In reply NO!

Again NO....Read 3-series carrier. Just check what gears your car has now.

Say del91, why don't you buy the zexel differential from www.SLPonline.com and put in a three series gear that way? That is what I am having done right now. I am paying to have that headache done $175.00. Seems like a good deal to me.

Yep! That is the one. You will need a rear end rebuild kit or equivalent. I got one from summit for the entire rear end and it cost me $117.95. There are cheaper ones out there though. It gave me all new bearings, shims, gasket, etc.

Since the posi is a 3 series you need a 3 series gear, I think the cut off was 3.08 and lower were 2 series, 3.23 and higher were 3 series. Someone correct that if I'm wrong as I cant remember right now. You can use a 3 series gear on a 2 series posi, but you must buy a ring gear spacer. I bought one a couple years back sinceI had a 2 series posi and was installing 3.42 gears. The spacer was $65 from some company in Las Vegas that I cant sem to remember right now. Also, you'll need to know what year the posi is from so you can make sure the axle splines match up to what you have in your car. Others will have to jump in for the year/spline info as I'm not familiar with that.

I believe it is 88 and up has 28 spline axles. 87 and older have 26 spline axles. Also, don't be alarmed if you see 7.625 or 7.5 on your gears.

1989 was the changeover year to the 28 spline axle shafts. However; a good number of early and RS models still recevied the 26 splines ones until the inventory run out in 89 . If there is a question on what you have on 1989 car, you need to check the spline count.
