Rear is dieing? Please confirm..
Ok I have my stock 2.73 non-posi rearend in my car. It has 127k on it now. Last 15k has been behind my 350. Anyways last week I decided to get rid of the tires since I have new kuhmo's at home. I power brake it expecting to get the one tire to smoke....to my suprise I go completely sideways.
Look back and two nice black marks...so I do it again.
It is spinning both rear tires. Evenly also. Buddy from work said pieces of the spider gears could be welded together making it like a locker...
He said his non-posi 12 bolt in his chevelle did this until it finally died.
What you think?

With a non posi the wheel with the least resistance will spin. If you hammer it without the brakes on one wheel will brake loose and keep spining while the other gets no power. If the right amount of braking is placed on the rear the wheel with the least resistance will switch between the two. Thats why you got the two marks.

Ok so what I experienced could be normal?
It has never did this before.
However I just replaced the back brake shoes BUT the pass side self adjuster isn't working at all so I basically have to brakes on that side. I'm getting the self adjuster and hardware kits friday when I get paid. Maybe that had something to do with it?

my 2.73 open did this. it would leave two at first then the drivers side would die out eventually and the passenger side would go for about another 20-30 ft. now i have posi so it stays even so im happy. i wouldnt worry about it.

Even if it does die I really don't care. I already have another rear-end I could throw in if I have to. In a few weeks hopefully I'll have the money to get the posi and gears in it.
my friend just got new gears installed about 2 months ago with no posi and sometimes it will leave both tire marks so i would say your gears are fine. when u start hearing noises then u have a problem
