Hello there!
Last Sunday my 1987 z28 was changing through the gears fine. On Monday morning I went to work with only 1st 2nd and 3rd. Now she will only change from 1st to 2nd at WOT. Shift cable selects gears park etc. TV cable has been checked and is adjusted and working fine. No new noises. I have drained fluid and it looks OK ( no bits etc in the pan ). Changing filter and refilling as soon as I can. The car is in the United Kingdom so things like filters and gaskets take a few days to get!
I have the correct dealer workshop manual but any suggestions would be most welcome as my knowledge of auto boxes is not very great.

Sounds as though the govenor gear may be going out. Once gone the trans will only have first & reverse. Common problem and an easy fix. Under domed cover driver side (Oh, left side of car as sitting in it, be passenger side for the folks across the pond), pop cover, pull out govenor, has gear on end of shaft.
