q about old fluid in tranny/rear end

i am wondering if there is any harm in leaving a tranny and rear end sitting for a long time with the fluids still in them. i have a parts car that has been sitting for a while without having started up. and i dunno when i'll get a chance to remove the tranny and rear end. also i might still wanna start it up and drive it later on.

TIA

Less of a problem with tranny & rear than with the engine.
