I've never used RTV or a gasket when putting my shifter on the tranny and never came across a leak or a problem. Anyone else not do this?

You should. A little bit of fluid can leak out and you would never notice it until you have tranny problems. It is probably not a serious problem but I would always seal it.

Ditto...my manual says to use silicone sealant along with the instructions on my shifter. Will it leak w/o it?? Probably not much if any, unless you're four wheelin!!
