should of been etched on the gear set of on a packing slip. .008 is usually what i shoot for. is your pinion depth set to spec?

my pinion depth is actually .002 to shallow and it has no shims in it i have no idea how that happened but its the closest i could get it. the gears do not make any noise with the carrier in. but i havent checked the pattern yet so i wil see what happens when i set the pattern

with no shims i'd suspect you made a mistake somewhere along the way. most gm 7.5 ten bolts will take a .035 shim.

when i measured the pinion dept with no shims in it it was 2.313. the pinion depth stamped on the pinion is 2.317 i dont see why or where i would have gone wrong

guess i don't either, but still i don't think a .004 shim would be right, however if you're sure you checkd it right and all i'd stick the .004 shim in and bring it into spec.

i used the marking compound and it showed that the pinion was to far back so i added the .035 shim and it looks pretty good. and since i can only work on it at school for about 3 hours a day i will have to wait till tomorrow to get everything right
