TC interchangability 4L60E to 700R4
I have a possible good deal lined up for a torque convertor, but it's intended purpose is for the 4L60E out of a 99 TA. I have a 700R4 in my car currently.
First question- Is the input shaft spline count the same between the 2 transmissions?
second question- Will the convertor clutch operate properly? I know that the 4L60E is completely computer controlled, but the TCC on my trans is also computer controlled.
IIRC, the 4L60E and 700R4 use the same case and bellhousing, so I shouldn't run in to any physical constraints, right?
Anyone have first hand experience here?

The spline count is the same, but the input shaft itself is different, therefore it will not interchange. I could be wrong here, but I have never seen a late model with the early (pre-1998) type input shaft, if it is, I stand corrected, & the TC would be interchangable, as it has a "better" design lockup clutch.

Whats a 9c1? The new converter went right on, and there's no play between the converter and the input shaft?
My stock converter in my 87 IROC seems to stall at about 1500 rpm, but it may be even lower than that.

a 9c1 is a police packege caprice, it's has a lt1 with 4l60E, yes it went rigth in, no there is no play on the shaft, it runs fine an it shift smoothly, the only thing is that the stall on the 9c1 is higher that the stock on the t/a. haven't hit the gears hard jet,

1985 and newer 700-R4s and 4L60-Es behind gen I and Gen II small blocks interchange. Those behind Gen III are different. I believe it's just a depth issue, but yeah, stick with what fits.

I guess that either way that elimates the LS1 convertor then
Back to Ebay!!!
EDIT-- Do the earlier 4l60e's have the better designed TCC that probuilt was referring to?
