Extra Unused Plug Near Transmission

I was under my 88 camaro yesterday looking for the transmission leak when I noticed a plug hanging loose.

This plug is a 2 wire plug hanging next to the drivers side of the transmission. It comes out of the harness and looks like it is supposed to be there. It is near where another plug from the wiring harness is plugged in. I didn't disconnect the plugged in plug. The mystery plug is also a male plug. (IE it would plug into a recepticle).

The car runs fine. I couldn't find anywhere where it might plug in.

It was dirty so I suspect it has not been unplugged for a long time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks...

PS: If anyone posts a link on how I could of searched, let me know what key words you used. My search didn't give me any useful results.

I could be wrong, but I'm willing to bet that plug is for an electric speedo setup. Most camaros didn't get the electronic speedo til 1990, but I've heard they have the wiring there for the electronic one anyways. It's been too long since I've looked, but I think my 89 RS has the same unused plug under there too.

a standard 2 pin round pin weatherpak would be reverse lights on a T5. An ovaled, but notches on one side one would be VSS as said above. Other than that... post a pic.
