Mine did that about a 2 years ago, I changed the fluid and filter and it was fine. Get a 'Filtran' type filter, I used Fram. It takes about 4 1/2 qts to refill. May as well install a drain plug at the same time to make it easier for the next change.

most likely, your trans mount is worn out.

so when you shift into drive, the trans twists to the side until it hits the stop... when it stops you feel the bump.

when you shift from drive to reverse, you should feel the oppisate bump.

replace your trans mount and you'll be set.

The trans mount is a bushing about 1"x2" sandwiched between the trans crossmember and the transmission. If it's bad, you should be able to see that it's torn, or at the very least be able to seperate it by pushing up on the trans. It is a very common problem on these cars though.

I think the stabilizer bushing you're referring to is the torque arm mount. That one doesn't have anything to do with the trans, it hooks up to the torque arm which sets and holds the pinion angle on the rear.

Good luck

Yep, tranny mount, I've replaced it too. I'd recommend a poly mount insted of a stock replacement.

The pre-1987's did not have a forward accumulator, so they "hit harder" (from neutral/park to drive). especially with a high idle.

That sorta answers my question. Something similar to his but when I shift gears the tires feel like theyre breaking loose at around 5,000 rpms. Also the park to drive or n to drive is a little of a jolt.

ok boys this aint no little jolt this is a big jolt altho i have been talking to some people and if the car has a shift kit in it i may shift harder correct?. but i will still replace the bushings and see where i go from there.

Albertafbody,
I just had a somewhat simular problem......Did you try and adjusting your tv cable? (throttle valve cable) It is really easy and you dont need any tools, just look in your Haynes manual for directions. If yu dont have a haynes manual get one at Canadian Tire ($20.00). Its nice to know that Im not the only Canuck around here too

Regards
Dennis
