This weekend I'm going to change the transmission fluid in my TH700R4 box.

I ordered a new filter (which comes with the pan gasket) from an american car parts supplier over here (UK) for £13.87

I have a nagging doubt in my mind though.
I told him I had a TH700R4 and the car was an 88 IROC 5.0 TPI.

But he's sending me the kit for a 4L60E gearbox and says as mine is an overdrive box and is basically the same as that one the filter and gasket are the same.
I know they're supposed to be the same box, jut one is electronic, so in theory he's correct. Especially as his parts catalogue lists the filter and gasker for a TH700R4 up to 87 and this 4L60E filter and gasket for 88 onwards.

And as mine is an 88 I see his logic.

Can smeone confirm that the filter and gasker for the TH700R4 form 88 on is the same as the 4L60E?

Lovely.
I'll give this a go at the weekend then (and do the engine oil and coolant while I'm at it).

The 4L60E filter is different, the pan gasket the same.

Pay attention, probuilt already told you that the filter is DIFFERENT... It is.. you need the right one.. Not for a 700R4..

Hehe.

Fitted it yesterday, bit fiddly getting the gasket lined up as there is a crossmember in the way of the pan. But all done.

Box shifts quicker now and at wide open throttle will get into 3rd as soon as I lwet off the throttle, instead of the revs needing to fall to 3,500. It still won't xhange from 2nd-3rd at WOT though.
Checked the tv cable, pulled it all the way back as far as you can, pressed the throttle cable but no clicking. It didn't adjust itself at all.
Even fully pulled back the cable is slack at zero throttle, but tight at full throttle.
As it doesn't click (ie doesn't adjust) and is slack at zero throttle i assume the cable needs replacing...

When you say "pulled back", you mean the cable is in towards the firewall, and not pulled out towards the radiator, right?

Pulled back towards the firewall (ie the cabin), not forwards.

I can pull it back until the black (plastic?) bit is flush with the bracket, ie as far back as you can possible pull it. At this point the actual steel wire is still a little slack.
Then when I release the D button and go into the car and press the throttle down the cable doesn't ratchet forwards at all although on full throttle the steel wire is tight. Coming off the throttle the cable is still slack of course.

I have used 2 different gasket and filter kits from Advance Autoparts that say 700r4 and 4l60e on the same box. Thats probably what the confusion was.
