700-r4 Maybe linkage problem, please help

ok, so just today my transmission wont give me any other gear than drive. even in "P" i can drive. when i move the gear selector, i hear no clicks, for somethings i have to push the button but others it just slides back and forth freely. please help me figure out this problem, i have no reverse, park, or neutral.

jack the car up and have someone go thru the gears while your under the car (and its not running) and watch to see if the cable moves the shift bracket on the driverside of the transmission

figured it out, i jacked up the car and saw to my surprise that the bracket you speak of was just dangling there...with no bolts suporting it. so i just got back from the local hardware store with a couple trans pan bolts and i'm about to take her for a spin. wish me luck
